In our social lives, moral character is more desirable and important than intelligence—and people do indeed want to possess ideal personality traits.

Among the top 10 traits rated as the most positive, five are explicitly used to describe moral behavior: sincerity ranks first, followed by integrity, loyalty, honesty, trustworthiness, and reliability.

Other studies have confirmed that moral evaluations have a significant and substantial impact on social judgments.

When getting to know others, people tend to be more interested in moral information than in information about competence; moral information determines a person’s overall impression of another, as well as whether that impression is positive or negative.

When presented with negative information about others, people typically form moral judgments more quickly than they do judgments about competence.

When evaluating political figures, people often consider moral issues to be more important than competence.

This is why intelligent people aren’t necessarily well-liked, but moral people are respected. Many of the anecdotes that have been passed down are related to morality, but very few are related to intelligence.

*************

![""]("https://www.wudejiansteel.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/品德比智力更加让人向往和重要.jpg")
