The Story of “Mold Steel King” Wu Dejian and Kyocera, a Fortune Global 500 Company

I remember it was around May 2009 when Kyocera Dongguan contacted us through one of their mold suppliers. One of Kyocera’s molds had suffered a steel fracture, and they urgently needed to purchase a piece of SKD11 mold steel. Since it was only a single piece of mold steel, I actually didn’t want to take the order. However, out of gratitude to our own customer, we decided to supply it regardless of cost.

Later, after inspection and verification, Kyocera determined that the fractured mold steel had been counterfeit SKD11—fake material substituted with something else—while the SKD11 mold steel we provided was genuine. As a result, Kyocera terminated cooperation with the previous supplier. By a twist of fate, Yuhui Mold Steel became a mold steel supplier to Kyocera, a Fortune Global 500 company. We supplied them continuously for two years, with stable quality and delivery times, and both sides worked together very smoothly.

In 2011, for various reasons, Kyocera shifted its mold steel procurement back to the original supplier. However, after a period of cooperation, Kyocera’s mold punches frequently experienced chipping at the edges. This caused the stamping molds to be taken off the line frequently for maintenance, leading to low production efficiency. After testing and analysis, Kyocera discovered some suspicious signs again. After discussions among production department management, a decision was made to return to purchasing mold steel from Yuhui.

After another round of verification, cooperation between Yuhui and Kyocera became even smoother. From the second half of 2011 onward, Kyocera has continuously purchased mold steel from Yuhui. Looking back today on all the twists and turns of that time, I still have many reflections.

The key reason Kyocera chose Yuhui was certainly not because our sales tactics were clever, not because our payment terms were long, and not because our prices were low. Part of the reason was that Yuhui’s mold steel quality met Kyocera’s requirements, and our delivery times also met Kyocera’s requirements. Without these two fundamental conditions, even a god could not have helped us.

Dongguan Yuhui Mold Steel insists on not competing with peers on price; we do not resort to “small tricks” such as counterfeiting, passing off inferior goods as superior ones, substituting fakes for genuine products, or shoddy manufacturing. We follow sound business principles and ensure that customers can purchase with confidence—this is the most basic, and least worth mentioning, guarantee of Yuhui Mold Steel. We have many customers who have cooperated with us continuously since 2002. Although our persistence has caused us to suffer many silent losses, over time, our customers have rewarded us even more.
