H13、 8407 and 8418 are medium carbon steel with carbon content of 0.38%. They have good toughness, but not enough strength. When they are used for the first mock examination with multiple cavities, and the mold with requirements for parting surface clamping line, they are prone to collapse or flaring. In order to meet production and customer needs, it forces you to improve the performance of mold materials.
This type requires strength, high hardness, and high toughness. You can use LG die steel with high toughness. LG is a high toughness tool steel exclusively developed by Yuhui Company. LG’s toughness is 8-9 times that of DC53, with a hardness of 54-58HRC. Its toughness is so good that it does not break even when bent.
LG has a higher hardness than H13, 8407, and 8418, with better strength and no mold collapse or chipping. At the same time, it has good toughness and no corner collapse. Currently, many zinc alloy die-casting molds that require high hardness use LG die steel.
