Punch 8mm hot-rolled plate, M42 will collapse after 3000 punches, this is because the wrong tool steel was used. Chapter 576

The wrong material was used for the mold, and even the most expensive tool steel is useless. In the 275th live broadcast room, a netizen named Xiao Jinmao asked, ‘If you punch an 8mm hot plate in one step, M42 is prone to breakage and can only be punched 3000 times at a time.’.

Stamping 8mm hot plate, this is thick plate stamping. Thick plate stamping is hard extrusion, which requires extremely high anti cracking performance of the tool steel. However, he chose a high-speed steel with extremely poor anti cracking performance and very good wear resistance, which was the wrong material.

M42 is a high-speed steel of W2Mo9Cr4V2Co8, with a hardness of 65-68HRC. It has high carbon, high alloy, high hardness, and excellent wear resistance. Its red hardness is also very good, and its price is very expensive. But for ordinary melted and cast high-speed steel, segregation is an unavoidable defect, and there are a large number of microscopic cracks that cannot be seen by the naked eye in the structure.

These microscopic cracks will propagate under external force, and when the accumulated crack propagation reaches a certain degree, problems such as corner collapse and cracking will occur. He currently breaks after 3000 stamping cycles, and every time he repairs the mold, he breaks after 3000 cycles. Such frequent cracking indicates that M42 is not suitable for one-step stamping of 8mm hot-rolled plates, such as thick plate stamping. I recommend 8566 die steel with good anti cracking performance.

Because 8566 is a proprietary anti collapse steel developed by Yuhui tool Steel, it mainly solves the problem of mold cracking. It has accumulated over a thousand cases in 5 stamping conditions, 6 major materials, and 7 major fields. The anti cracking performance of 8566 is four times that of high-speed steel SKH-9 and twice that of D2, with a hardness of 58-60HRC. It mainly solves the cracking problems that cannot be solved by high hardness mold steels such as D2, DC53, SKH-9, especially in stainless steel stamping, sharp corner stamping, thick plate stamping, precision stamping molds and other conventional mold steels that cannot be solved by 8566 die steel.

Remember our Mr. Lin, he is a one-step precision punching 8mmHPCC440 material, the product is brake disc steel back, 8mm thick acid washed plate, brake disc steel back needs precision punching, and has high requirements for bright band. At the beginning, SKH51 high-speed steel was used, but after punching 800-1000 products, SKH51 would collapse. The failure mode of SKH51 is somewhat similar to that of M42.

Later, he changed it to DC53 die steel, which had a worse effect. The bright strip was prone to scratching and could not achieve the effect of precision punching. But he later switched to 8566 anti collapse steel and told me a month later that the stamping effect of 8566 die steel was good. Similarly, for a car brake disc steel back that is precisely punched 8mm in one step, 8566 die steel can be punched more than 25000 times. 8566 has increased the lifespan of the mold from a few hundred to 25000 times, which is a dual effect of the old and new societies. For stamping thick plates, the mold should use 8566 die steel.

Previously, many people used 8566 die steel to punch 10mm Q235B building material buckles and composite molds for cutting. Originally, DC53 and LD molds required cracking, but using 8566 die steel can punch more than 30000 times.

And there’s also Mr. He, who specializes in precision punching 7mm 45 steel gears in one step. Originally, when using DC53, about 2000 products would break teeth, and each break would break 3-5mm. Every time the punch head couldn’t grind it out, a part had to be cut off to be able to grind it out. Because it is a precision punching machine, you always fix the mold, which makes efficiency difficult. The mold cost is high, the wire cutting fee is also expensive, and there is also a lot of waste of mold materials, making the cost unbearable.

Later, it was replaced with LD die steel, which reduced the hardness, but it could only dry 5000 products and also caused tooth breakage. Each breakage required 2-3mm, which was not easy to use. Switching to W360 is prone to wear and tear, and the price is also very expensive.

But later on, with the replacement of 8566 die steel, 25000 products can be punched at once, and the mold will not break teeth. After a certain period of time, the punch can be ground and reused.

8566 has increased the lifespan of the mold from 5000 times to 25000 times, which is equivalent to replacing the mold three times less, resulting in an additional 4-6 hours of production time. This allows for the production of many products and an increase in output value. By repairing the mold three times less, the mold cost has also been saved significantly. People are not yet so tired, and the daily wage given to workers is all focused on production, rather than waiting for the mold to be replaced.

From these three cases, it can be seen that stamping 8mm iron material and 8566 die steel can be punched 20000 to 30000 times. Even if it only needs to be stamped 20000 times, compared to M42, which breaks after 3000 stamping times, it still has a growth of 6-7 times. If the lifespan of the mold is increased by 7 times, it is equivalent to buying 8566 at a 30% discount. It takes an hour to repair the mold, no matter what. If you remove the mold 7 times less, it’s equivalent to an extra day of stamping time. How much is this product worth? 8566 die steel is free to use.

Besides, the price of M42 is much higher than 8566, even more expensive, but with a shorter lifespan. No matter how you calculate it, it’s not cost-effective.

Also, you can only punch 3000 products with one punch, and it is made of high priced M42 high-speed steel. Even if you have the intention to cut, you cannot afford the material cost of the punch. And if you change the punch after 3000 strokes, the punch will collapse, and you have to repair the mold and replace the punch. This kind of fuss will not make you efficient, and profitable orders will also be ruined by you.

If you don’t choose the right tool steel, even if you use expensive tool steel, it won’t work. It can’t help you achieve high efficiency, long service life, and low cost use. By choosing the right tool steel, it can achieve high efficiency, long service life, low cost use, and even free use.

The price of 8566 mold steel is lower than M42, and its anti cracking performance is better than M42. It is more suitable for one-step stamping of 8mm hot-rolled plates. If you use it, you do not need to repair the mold frequently. This will increase efficiency, lower the material cost of your mold, make you comfortable, and increase the output value. Only then can you make money. Choosing the right tool steel is more important than anything else

The use of 8566 die steel for punch cracking is a double-edged sword in both old and new societies.
