Stamping workers like to try tool steel. They can try six or seven different types of molds and always find a suitable one. This is the mentality of stamping workers.
Mr. Xiong stamping 1mm thick 316L stainless steel is mainly a thinning process, and the parts are prone to cracking. ASP60, ASP23, SKH-9, SKH51 have all been used, and the best stamping 3K is not enough. SLD, DC53, SKD11 have also been tried.
When he found me, he had already tried 7 types of tool steel, but the results were not good. He had punched them up to 3000 times, but they all cracked.

Cold heading thinning is a cold extrusion process that requires high anti cracking performance of tool steel, especially for its narrow edge working condition. The punch has a small circle, and this small narrow edge has extremely high requirements for the anti cracking performance of tool steel. The 7 types of tool steel he tried, except for ASP23 powder high-speed steel which had slightly better anti cracking performance, were all inferior. The best one now can only be punched 3000 times, which also proves this point.
This narrow edge working condition is prone to collapse, so I recommend 8566 anti collapse steel.
The anti cracking performance of 8566 is four times that of high-speed steel SKH-9 and twice that of D2, with a hardness of 58-60HRC. It can solve the cracking problem that high hardness mold steels such as D2, DC53, and SKH-9 cannot solve; Especially in harsh working conditions such as stainless steel stamping, sharp corner stamping, and narrow edge stamping, the cracking that cannot be solved by conventional mold steel is solved by using 8566 anti collapse steel.

Similar to Mr. Xiong’s working conditions, there have been successful cases with 8566. On a 3mm thick 201 stainless steel cold pier, there is a small narrow edge at the head of the punch. Other punch heads made of mold steel either have broken edges or cracks, making it impossible to dry. However, the narrow edge punch made of Yuhui 8566 anti collapse steel will not break flesh or pieces. The use of 8566 die steel for punch cracking is a double-edged sword in both old and new societies..
Under my persuasion, he really had no way out. Mr. Xiong bought an 8566 anti collapse steel and went back to try it out.
